I help to manage a IPv4 network for the University of Ghana. Initially we deployed NAT with private IPs for the host computers being routed to a few public IPs. However we have just received a requested block of public IPs from AFRINIC which we are in the process of deploying to all hosts within our network.

Yes. I have helped to configure and managge two main border routers (Cisco) for links to the internet. Aside that we have routers that link to satelite-campuses of the University in Accra and I help to configure and manage these so users at those satelite-campuses can have their intended trafic to University of Ghana locally hosted resources like the website and webmail routed directly without having go to through the internet. Features such as BGP and OSPF are used.

My employer; University of Ghana is the premier university in Ghana. It has a student population of about 35,000. My position is ICT Assistant, Network Administration and my duties include planing and designing the network infrastructure for the university, implementing network plans and new technologies, maintaining the network and monitoring of the usage of the network resources.

The university's computer network is made up of about over 3000 hosts comprising both wired and wireless connections on campus. In addition there are connections to three satellite campuses. The operating systems used for our servers are mainly unix/linux based systems while the majority of hosts use Microsoft Windows. The university is connected to the Internet through a SAT3 connection provided by Vodafon.

I have had hands-on training on configuring and managing Cisco and HP switches and i've been involved in building the University of Ghana network with network devices and so that has prepared me for the track AR-E: Advanced Routing Techniques which I wish to attend.

The University of Ghana network which I help to manage forms a critical part of the resources for effective teaching and learning which is the core business of the University. This University happens to be a key University in the development of human resources for my country Ghana. Hence my participation in this training would help a lot in building the needed skills for the benefit of the University and my country. I have approached my employer for funding and the result is positive. It would therefore be a great incentive if financial assistance is given me to help meet the cost of the training.
