Initially we deployed NAT with private IPs for the host computers being routed to a few public IPs. However we have just received a requested block of public IPs from AFRINIC which we are in the process of deploying to all hosts within our network. I have helped to configure and managge two main border routers (Cisco) for links to the internet. Aside that we have routers that link to satelite-campuses of the University in Accra and I help to configure and manage these so users at those satelite-campuses can have their intended trafic to University of Ghana locally hosted resources like the website and webmail routed directly without having go to through the internet. Features such as BGP and OSPF are used. Switches* --------- I have helped to configure and deploy various Cisco and HP switches accross our network at the Access, Distribution and Core levels. It has a student population of about 35,000. My position is ICT Assistant, Network Administration and my duties include planing and designing the network infrastructure for the university, implementing network plans and new technologies, maintaining the network and monitoring of the usage of the network resources. A brief description of your computing and networking environment (operating systems, networking software, modems, etc.), including the connectivity of your organization to the Internet and your country's connectivity to the international Internet* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The university's computer network is made up of about over 3000 hosts comprising both wired and wireless connections on campus. In addition there are connections to three satellite campuses. The operating systems used for our servers are mainly unix/linux based systems while the majority of hosts use Microsoft Windows. The university is connected to the Internet through a SAT3 connection provided by Vodafon. Track SS-E: Scalable Internet Services A precise description of how you have used the training you have received in the past ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have used the previous training to help build network monitoring systems such as Nagios and Cacti for the University of Ghana network to help us monitor device downtimes and internet bandwidth usage respectively.
